February – The Sweetest Month of the Year!

If being a teacher for the past decade has taught me one thing, it is definitely that best laid plans never seem to come to fruition! Plan B, C, D, E, and really even F are often called into action!

I guess the entire past year has been this way, but January really got the best of me!  There are lots of fabrics on order that did not arrive, some of the fabrics that did arrive were not what was expected, and the longarm seemed to have a mind of its own.  My basement is also frigidly cold, so spending time with a tension crazy machine has not been very appealing.

Looking at the bright side of life, the weather has been decent for a Chicago winter, I went back to school for the first time in 10 months, and a trip to Vegas was just booked for May!  All in all, life is good!  The Vegas trip is probably the most exciting, let’s be real.  Having to wake up and actually get out of bed by 5:15 in the morning to get to school is not really that exciting.

Anywho, there should be lots of new stuffs coming to Buffalo Flatts Quilt Co this month!

  • Ahoy! Mermaids,
  • Riptide,
  • Bee Cross Stitch,
  • Timberland,
  • and a few more all from Riley Blake Designs!

I feel like I forgot what was ordered already!

Two collections I am very excited about are Ahoy! Mermaids and Riptide.  My love for novelty fabrics is obnoxious and these two fabric lines definitely give me the feels!

Ahoy! Mermaids by Melissa Mortenson of Polka Dot Chair is a fabulously bright and cheerful collection being released in February.  It features mermaids and whales and a touch of nautical goodness that you just cannot pass up!  There will be yardage and pre-cuts and oh my I cannot wait for it to arrive!  Plus one of the color ways in hot pink. Hot Pink!!!

Oh my goodness, Riptide by Citrus and Mint Designs features sharks!  Sharks! How cute it that?!  The teals mixed with the blue and lime green just scream awesome.  There is even a print that has little surfers all over it!

Between the mermaids and the sharks, the beach is calling, and I must go!

Bee Cross Stitch is a fabulous new basic being released by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs.  I feel like I have some thoughts churning in my brain for future projects for this fabric line, we shall see what comes to reality!   As with all of Lori Holt’s fabric lines, I would bet this line of basics does not disappoint.

What kind of basics do you want to see? Any specific colors? Designs?  I want Buffalo Flatts Quilt Co to stock what you want at a good price!

Like any other good quilter out there, I do set goals for the month as far as what I would like to accomplish for the day, the month, etc.  I do not, however, often achieve my goals.

Just yesterday I was planning on getting a quilt finished on the longarm, but I lost tension after a bobbin change and was so frustrated I had to walk away and it probably will not be another three days until I can get back to it.  Needless to say, I did not come anywhere close to completing my goals for the day.

Try and try again, I shall!

So anyway, back to goals.  Goals for February.

  • Longarm
    • Hearts and Kisses Quilt – Pattern by Beverly ____ of Flamingo Toes with Sending Love Fabric by My Mind’s Eye
    • Daybreak Quilt – a Tula Pink quilt kit featuring Linework and True Colors.  If ever there was a time to quilt in hot pink thread, this is the quilt!
    • Semi-custom quilting for a kid quilt for a family friend.
  • Quilt Top Making
    • Finish a super cool quilt top featuring On Safari fabric from Riley Blake Designs using the Beehive Quilt pattern from The Bonnie and Camille Quilt Bee book.
    • 4 Corners Panel quilt – I have some ideas, lets see if I can make them come to life!

February is a short month, but I am sure it will be jammed packed with lots of quily goodness! Maybe I will even get the desire to bind the 5 quilts patiently waiting their turn!

Now, the best has been saved for last…What is the best Valentine sweet treat out there?!  Reese’s Hearts? Sweet Tart Hearts?  Dove Chocolate?  Valentine’s Day may be the tastiest holiday out there, even better than Halloween, and the packaging is pink!   I think I must go get my delicious goodies now!

Happy Quilting from Buffalo Flatts Quilt Co!
